Smallville Season 4: A Review
The fourth season of Smallville, an American television series, began airing on September 22, 2004. The series recounts the early adventures of Kryptonian Clark Kent as he adjusts to life in the fictional town of Smallville, Kansas, during the years before he becomes Superman[^2^]. John Glover plays Lionel Luthor, Lex's manipulative and ruthless father, who is released from prison and claims to be a changed man. Annette O'Toole and John Schneider play Martha and Jonathan Kent, Clark's loving and supportive adoptive parents, who help him deal with his extraordinary abilities and his destiny. Erica Durance guest stars as Lois Lane, Chloe's cousin and a future journalist, who comes to Smallville to investigate Chloe's death and stays to help Clark in his adventures.The season also features a variety of villains who challenge Clark and his friends. The main antagonists are Genevieve Teague ( Jane Seymour) and her son Jason, who are descendants of Duchess Gertrude (also played by Seymour), a rival of Countess Isobel in the 17th century. They seek to obtain the three stones of knowledge and use them for their own purposes. Genevieve is also behind the death of Jason's father Edward Teague ( Robert Wisden), the leader of a secret society that protects the stones. Another recurring villain is Lionel Luthor, who claims to have been reformed by Jor-El after being blinded by a meteor shower. However, he still has ulterior motives and manipulates Clark and Lex throughout the season. He also becomes involved with Genevieve and learns about the stones. Other villains include Margaret Isobel Thoreaux (also played by Kreuk), a witch who possesses Lana's body and tries to find the stones; Mikhail Mxyzptlk ( Trent Ford), a foreign exchange student who can control people with his voice; Dawn Stiles ( Beatrice Rosen), a former prom queen who switches bodies with Lana; and Geoff Johns ( Chris Carmack), a football player who uses steroids made from meteor rocks. 061ffe29dd
