How to use AR-media Extension for Trimble SketchUp
AR-media Extension is a tool that allows you to create and view augmented reality models from Trimble SketchUp, a 3D modeling software. Augmented reality is a technology that overlays digital information on top of the real world, creating an immersive and interactive experience. With AR-media Extension, you can export your SketchUp models to the AR-media Studio platform, where you can manage, edit and share them with others. You can also view your models in augmented reality using the AR-media Player app on your smartphone or tablet.
In this article, we will show you how to use AR-media Extension for Trimble SketchUp and how to view your models in augmented reality. You will need the following:
A Trimble SketchUp account and software (version 2019 or later)
An AR-media Studio account (you can sign up for free here: https://studio.ar-media.com/)
An AR-media Player app (available for iOS and Android devices)
A personal plugin token (you can find it in your AR-media Studio account data)
Step 1: Install AR-media Extension for Trimble SketchUp
The first step is to install the AR-media Extension for Trimble SketchUp from the SketchUp Extension Warehouse. To do this, follow these steps:
Open Trimble SketchUp and go to Window > Extension Warehouse.
Search for "AR-media Extension" and click on it.
Click on the Install button and follow the instructions.
Restart Trimble SketchUp.
After installing the extension, you will see the AR-media Extension toolbar, which gives you access to the extension's functionalities.
Step 2: Export your model to AR-media Studio
The next step is to export your model to AR-media Studio, where you can manage, edit and share it with others. To do this, follow these steps:
Open your model in Trimble SketchUp.
Click on the Export button on the AR-media Extension toolbar.
In the Export window, enter your personal plugin token (you can find it in your AR-media Studio account data) and check the "Remember me" option if you want to save it for future sessions.
Choose a name for your model and click on Export. If you want to update a previously exported model instead, you must also enter its model token (you can find it in your AR-media Studio asset manager).
Wait for the export process to complete.
After exporting your model, you will see it in your AR-media Studio asset manager with the chosen name. You can also access your asset manager from any browser by logging into your AR-media Studio account.
Step 3: View your model in augmented reality
The final step is to view your model in augmented reality using the AR-media Player app on your smartphone or tablet. To do this, follow these steps:
Download and install the AR-media Player app from the App Store or Google Play Store.
Open the app and scan the QR code of your model (you can find it in your AR-media Studio asset manager or by clicking on the Go to your AR-media Studio account button on the AR-media Extension toolbar).
Wait for the model to load and place it on a flat surface.
Move around and explore your model in augmented reality.
You can also share your model with others by sending them the QR code or the link of your model. They will need the AR-media Player app to view it in augmented reality. 061ffe29dd
